ABOUT SOPHIE

MEET SOPHIE TANNER

Hi, I’m a writer, yoga teacher and creative communicator based in Brighton. I’m fascinated by coexistence… between humans and animals, modern life and nature, self-discovery and community.

I’ve explored these themes through novels, creative campaigns, yoga teaching, animal welfare work and a very public self-marriage that unexpectedly sparked global conversations about self-love.

Professionally, I work in storytelling and creative communications, currently as Senior Copywriter at the RSPCA – the UK’s oldest and largest animal charity. This website is part portfolio, part playground and part ongoing exploration of the stories and connections that matter most to me.

Come on in.

FICTION WITH HEART

I’m the author of feminist Up Lit novel Reader, I Married Me (Trapeze, 2019). My fiction explores belonging, self-worth and the roles women are expected to perform, often through distinctive worlds, colourful ensemble casts and humour with heart.

While my debut novel explored our relationship with ourselves, my second novel, Ordinary Folk, turns its attention to our relationship with the countryside, asking not just who belongs there, but what we owe the places we call home.

FIND YOUR FLOW

As a yoga teacher, I love creating classes that are playful, grounding and refreshingly free from perfectionism. My imaginative Vinyasa Flow sequences facilitate self-exploration, helping people reconnect with their bodies and tap into an instinctive sense of wellbeing.

Yoga has taught me just as much off the mat as on it, and my classes combine movement, humour, curiosity and compassion in equal measure. If you’re lucky, my canine companion yogi Ella will make a guest appearance, bringing a little extra zen dog energy to the room.

ON SELF-LOVE

Yes, I really did marry myself!

Back in 2015, what began as a playful personal statement unexpectedly became an international media story, leading to interviews, debates, documentaries and one very colourful chapter of my life.

It became the inspiration behind my first novel, Reader, I Married Me, and continues to shape the questions I explore through my writing today.
